To Begin
Shaped by conversation and the continuous rhythm of walking, To Begin aimed to capture the physical and emotional weight of essential labor, led by the voices that honour women’s resilience.
To Begin was filmed in a small village in Konso, Southern Ethiopia, a community rebuilding after severe floods that destroyed crops, contaminated water sources and triggered a cholera outbreak.
Following on from The Long Walk where I was not permitted to record sound, To Begin felt like an essential next step, to give voice to the women I walked with.
To Begin was exhibited on large public LED screens in City’s across the UK including London, Liverpool, Leeds and Manchester supported by Wateraid and the BBC. I later donated the film to WaterAid for ongoing use at events across the world.
