To Begin was filmed in a small village in Konso, Southern Ethiopia, a community rebuilding after severe floods that destroyed crops, contaminated water sources that triggered a cholera outbreak. Following on from The Long Walk where I was not permitted to record sound, To Begin felt like an essential next step, to give voice to the women I walked with.
To Begin was exhibited on large public LED screens in five city’s across the UK; London, Liverpool, Leeds, Sheffield and Manchester. I later donated the film to WaterAid for ongoing use at events across the world.
