The Nuba
This collection of photographs grew from my time in the Nuba Mountains Sudan, shaped as much by the people I met as by fragile terrain and shadow of hostility and conflict. What stayed with me was the stillness and the honour of a land and community with a powerful beauty.
Over four months of travelling and filming in Africa I wrote on old postcards found in Kenyan markets and bookshops. These memories became quiet notes tracing our unconventional passage to Sudan where we stayed for six weeks, a long journey shaped by beauty, fragility, and determination.
The postcards formed an intimate, ongoing conversation with myself and the film I was making. Long after the journey ended, these reflections expanded into a much longer written work.
