The Nuba
This collection of photographs grew from Ali’s time in the Nuba Mountains Sudan, shaped as much by the people she met as by fragile terrain and shadow of hostility and conflict. What stayed with Ali was the stillness and the honour of a land and community with a powerful beauty.
Postcards from Africa
Over four months of traveling and filming in Africa Ali wrote on old postcards found in Kenyan markets and bookshops. These memories became quiet notes tracing her unconventional passage to Sudan where she stayed for six weeks, a long journey shaped by beauty, fragility, and determination.
The postcards formed an intimate, ongoing conversation with the film she was making. Long after the journey ended, these reflections expanded into a much longer written work.
