We will sing
Over time, and often across full days spent with Ann Hamilton’s installation We Will Sing at Salts Mill, Ali’s attention shifted from recording discrete moments for its documentation to listening to the space itself as an accumulation.
Through vibrations in the walls and floor, footsteps, movements, traces of presence - Ali’s recognition of the work began to orient toward duration and accumulation: a continuous field in which present sounds seemed inseparable from those that have passed through the building over time, rather than something to be held as singular moments.
The photographs shown here were made during these visits, using both digital processes and 35mm double-exposed film, emerging from within the work itself.
