The Nuba
Made during Ali's time in the Nuba Mountains of Sudan, these photographs reflect encounters with people, place, and the enduring rhythms of daily life. Beyond the presence of conflict, the work holds onto moments of stillness, resilience, and human connection.
Postcards from Africa
Over four months of traveling and filming in Africa Ali wrote on old postcards found in Kenyan markets and bookshops. These memories became quiet notes tracing her unconventional passage to Sudan where she stayed for six weeks, a long journey shaped by beauty, fragility, and determination.
The postcards formed an intimate, ongoing conversation with the film she was making. Long after the journey ended, these reflections expanded into a much longer written work.
