Finding Place: pAINTINGS
While in residence at Ilkley Art Studio, Ali worked at a much larger scale, exporing memory and materiality. Through a process of layering, adding, washing away, and rebuilding, the works evolved intuitively, allowing marks and materials to accumulate and settle into place. This process of construction and erasure became a way of exploring how memories become fragmented, and transformed over time, with the material itself, an active part of the work's meaning.
